Churnalism
Why does every news site have the same article?
Churnalism is news produced by republishing - wire copy, press releases, another outlet's reporting - with little or nothing added. The word is two decades old; the practice is most of what a news feed is now.
It isn't fraud, and it isn't new. Agencies exist so one reporter's work can reach everywhere. The trouble starts when the copies outnumber the reporting: a reader sees twenty headlines and mistakes them for twenty confirmations.
Where you can see it here
Every story page here folds reprints under the report they copy, so what's left is the number of outlets that actually did the work. The front page ranks stories by those voices, not by the echo.
