Lithuania is moving to abolish its ban on hosting nuclear weapons, a motion that has set off alarm bells in the Russian government.
- Kyiv Post (Ukraine)20:24
Lithuania moved closer toward lifting its long-standing nuclear weapons ban, after the amendment passed its first reading on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with 106-18 votes in favor. The country’s Constitution currently prohibits weapons of mass destruction and foreign military bases to be stationed on its territory. A final vote, scheduled for Jan. 12, 2027, could remove that provision. The Kremlin promptly responded to the move, calling any such deployment an escalation that would force Russia to act.
